Free self-defence class for women on Saturday 2 July
Our next free self-defence class for women will be on 2 July from 2-4pm at the Community Centre. These popular classes are sponsored by Badger Farm Parish Council. Led by local martial arts instructor Phil Aucott, the classes aim to help local women learn the proper techniques to defend themselves so that they can gain confidence.
A study from the University of Oregon found that women who participated in a self-defence class felt they:
- had better safety strategies in place
- were more equipped to deal with strangers, and people they know, in the context of potential assault or abuse
- had more positive feelings about their bodies
- had increased self-confidence
One participant at a recent class told us:
The self-defence class was very informal and Phil encouraged us all to relax and share our experience of tricky situations in a safe space. Nevertheless the practical exercises were very realistic and we learnt some effective techniques to enable us to feel more confident if we were ever in a “difficult” situation as a lone woman. Thoroughly recommend. Should be part of PSE education in schools for both sexes.
We encourage all local women to take part. To book your place, please email Ali on bfobrca.manager@gmail.com.
