Covid-19 Immunisation Centre
Adult vaccination programme
Winchester City Primary Care Network (Friarsgate, St Clements and St Paul’s Surgeries) are collaborating to deliver a Community Covid-19 Immunisation Centre at the Community Centre. This is based in the Bushfield sports hall and the newly renovated Clarendon room. The PCN is geared up to vaccinate 2000 patients per week, dependant on vaccine supplies. There is a strict priority list the PCN needs to follow.
As of July 2021, if you are aged 18 or over you should have received a personal invitation from your GP surgery to book an appointment for a Covid-19 vaccination.
All patients aged 18 and over have now been invited and if any over 18 has not yet booked or has not heard from their practice please contact the practice ASAP.
Patients will usually be called for the second vaccine around 8-10 weeks after their first and this will be done automatically by their practice. If patients have not heard from their practice regarding their second vaccine at around 11 weeks please contact the practice to let them know.
Friarsgate Practice COVID Vaccination update
If you have any queries, you should get in touch with your surgery directly. Please do not contact the Community Centre for an appointment as we have no access to the appointment booking service and will not be able to help you.
Under-18 vaccination programme
In August 2021, Friarsgate and St Paul’s Practices wrote:
You may have seen the news that the NHS is going to vaccinate children and young people in specific groups, following advice from the JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation). Please do not contact the practice to book an appointment for your child – the NHS will invite you. The groups that are eligible for the vaccination are:
- 17-year-olds that are within three months of turning 18
- 12-15-year olds ‘at risk’ with the underlying health conditions specified below:
- severe neuro-disabilities
- Down’s Syndrome
- underlying conditions resulting in immunosuppression
- those with profound and multiple learning disabilities, severe learning disabilities or who are on the learning disability register
- Children aged 12 years and older who are household contacts of individuals (adults or children) who are immunosuppressed (this is in addition to 16-17 year olds in this group, who became eligible earlier in the year)
These groups have been selected based on a combination of factors including their risk of getting seriously ill from coronavirus, passing it to others who may become seriously ill, and evidence of safety and effectiveness.
If your child aged 12 to 15 and is in one of the eligible groups, we will contact you by early September to invite you to book appointments for them for the vaccination. If you are within three months of turning 18, you will be invited directly to book your appointments via the national booking service at the appropriate time.
Here are some FAQs which can provide more information.
Room availability
The Immunisation Centre will continue to be based at the Community Centre for the foreseeable future. This will mean that we currently have only two rooms available for general hire.

Can my 18 year old book her covid vaccine with you, we live in Winchester.
All vaccinations at the Community Centre are by invitation only. If your daughter is registered with any of the GP surgeries in the Winchester City Primary Care Network (Friarsgate, St Clements and St Paul’s) she should be getting a text soon to invite her to make a booking (it may be worth getting your daughter to check with her practice that they have the correct text number for her if she hasn’t been in contact with them since she turned 18).
I was contacted for first vaccination at badger farm (registered at St Pauls), but it is now past 12 weeks and I jhave not been contacted since for my second. What should I do?
All vaccination appointments are organised directly by the surgeries that are part of the Winchester City Primary Care Network (ie Friarsgate, St Clements and St Paul’s Surgeries). I have seen the following message from the PCN on the Friarsgate website: “Patients will usually be called for the second vaccine around 8-10 weeks after their first and this will be done automatically by their practice. If patients have not heard from their practice regarding their second vaccine at around 11 weeks please contact the practice to let them know.” I would imagine that this would also apply to St Paul’s so I would suggest getting in touch directly with your surgery (01962 853599).
I am trying to book my vaccine but badger fame isn’t coming up on my list of options despite being my closest centre (I live in Winchester) and I’m registered with St Pauls. Are you no longer doing vaccines?
Vaccinations are still being done at the Community Centre, but I believe that they remain by invitation only and cannot be booked through the NHS site. You would have to contact your surgery directly to see what they can offer you. I’m afraid we are unable to book vaccination appointments for you as they are managed directly by the Winchester City Primary Care Network.
