Free self-defence class for women this autumn
Autumn self-defence class
We’re thrilled that this autumn Badger Farm Parish Council is once again able to sponsor another of our ever-popular free self-defence class for women. This class will be on 12 November from 2-4pm at the Community Centre.
Local martial arts instructor Phil Aucott will lead the class, which aims to help local women learn the proper techniques to defend themselves so that they can gain confidence.
Why take part?
A study from the University of Oregon found that women who participated in a self-defence class felt they:
- had better safety strategies in place
- were more equipped to deal with strangers, and people they know, in the context of potential assault or abuse
- had more positive feelings about their bodies
- had increased self-confidence
One participant at a recent class told us:
The self-defence class was very informal and Phil encouraged us all to relax and share our experience of tricky situations in a safe space. Nevertheless the practical exercises were very realistic and we learnt some effective techniques to enable us to feel more confident if we were ever in a “difficult” situation as a lone woman. Thoroughly recommend. Should be part of PSE education in schools for both sexes.
How to book
These classes are open to all local women, not just residents of Badger Farm. To book your place, please email Ali on bfobrca.manager@gmail.com.
